Head Start programs empower children, and all those involved with Head Start, to practice healthy lifestyles, with an emphasis on developing self-care and wellness choices for life.
Guidelines for Implementation
- Ensure children are immunized
- Arrange for physical, vision and hearing assessments
- Arrange for dental exams
- Teach and model good dental habits
- Develop indoor and outdoor activities (for children and staff) to help gross motor skills and to promote a healthy, active lifestyle
- Arrange for developmental assessments, and seek help of specialists as needed
- Offer information to parents on topics like healthy lifestyles, medicine wheel teachings, FAS, pre- and post-natal care, self-care and wellness, etc.
