Component 6: Social Support
Head Start programs help families connect with resources and community services that can support and empower them in their roles as parents.
Guidelines for Implementation
- Cultivate relationships with social workers, counselors, government agencies, health units, safe houses, and band-operated programs
- Have pamphlets and bulletin boards with information on local programs and services
- Provide referrals and community resource information to families as needed
- Provide family needs assessments (in conjunction with other service providers)
- Participate in case management meetings with other service providers
- Collaborate with other agencies to initiate services for parents where a need is identified
